WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE – A Guide For Parents

During your child’s day their key person will be making observations as they play and learn and record their progress plus completing other documentation too. Your child will have two journals, one about their care, sleep, food that they have eaten nappy changing medication etc.
The other journal is called ‘My Learning Journey’ which has all information and assessments on your child’s learning and development.
When you collect your child we will discuss their care journal with you, but you can ask to see the learning journey at any time.
Parents and carers are invited twice a year to open days in May and November where you can discuss your child’s progress and development.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
We aim to provide equality of opportunity for all staff and children. This includes children with SEND. We feel that it is important that children have additional needs identified and addressed at the earliest possible stage.
Each child is able to progress at his or her own pace in all areas of development and this is true for children with and without disabilities or learning difficulties.
It is our intention that children will access the appropriate support and provision in order that they can be helped to achieve their full potential. We are experienced in working in close liaison with professionals across the range of special needs and we operate in accordance with the Governments Code of Practice on Special Educational Needs and Disability (2014). Our curriculum is differentiated to accommodate children with Special Needs.
